As the Prime Minister Cup enters its decisive phase, let’s dissect the current standings and the potential scenarios for teams vying for a spot in the Final and the Elite Trophy.
Teams Out of the Contest (Eliminated):
- Karnali
- Gandaki
- Lumbini
- Koshi
Race to the Final:
- Nepal Police Club (12 points)
- Matches Left: 3 (vs. Gandaki, Lumbini, Sudurpaschim)
- One win in next 3 ensures a spot in the Final.
- In case of losses, must maintain a favorable Net Run Rate (NRR).
- Bagmati Province (12 points)
- All matches completed.
- Relies on other teams’ results; must hope for one loss of APF and two losses by Army, Sudurpaschim.
- If APF wins all matches, Army and Sudurpaschim lose one match each, Bagmati must hope their NRR doesn’t go below above mentioned teams.
- Madhesh Province (12 points)
- All matches completed.
- Have a low NRR than Bagmati on same points, which makes them practically out from the race of finals.
- Tribhuwan Army Club (10 points)
- Matches Left: 2 (vs. Sudurpaschim, Gandaki)
- Must win all remaining matches to secure a Final spot.
- In case of one loss, the chances depends upon the other teams result and NRR.
- Sudurpaschim Province (8 points)
- Matches Left: 3 (vs. TAC, NPC, APFC)
- Must win all remaining matches to secure a final spot.
- In case of one loss, the chances depends upon the other teams result and NRR.
- Armed Police Force Club (8 Points)
- Matches Left: 2 (vs Sudurpaschim, Karnali)
- Must win both matches with healthy NRR to remain in contenton and hope Army and Sudurpaschim lose a match.
Elite Trophy Contention:
- All 6 teams (except those eliminated) are in the race for the Elite Trophy.
Additional Notes:
- Nepal Police Club needs just one win to secure Elite Trophy qualification.
- Even if Police club lose all their matches, they need to ensure their NRR doesn’t go down beyond Madhesh Province and one of loser between tomorrow’s most important clash (Army vs. SPP) and APF.
- Bagmati Province holds a slightly safer position due to a better NRR.
- Bagmati just need either APF to lose a match or one of the Army and Sudurpaschim to lose at least 2 (or hope their NRR stays lower than them. They just need at least one of the Army, Sudurpaschim, and APF to finish below them
- Tribhuwan Army Club and Sudurpaschim must win all remaining matches to stay in the Elite Trophy race.
- If the winner of tomorrow’s clash lose one of their remaining match later, they also need to ensure their NRR doesn’t go below that of Madhesh and one of either loser of the said match or APF.
- Armed Police Force Club (APF) must win all remaining matches; a loss means missing out on the Elite Trophy.
- Madhesh also have a very difficult equation for Elite Trophy because of the low NRR.
- The loser of tomorrow’s clash still have a chance if they win all remaining match and maintain NRR above one of Bagmati or APF (or APF lose atleast 1).
The upcoming clash between Tribhuwan Army Club and Sudurpaschim Province holds significant importance in shaping the tournament’s outcome. The scenarios are intricate, and NRR becomes a crucial factor in case of ties in points. As the league stage nears its conclusion, the excitement and intensity continue to rise.
