The Nepali women’s national team scored a thrilling five-run victory over Malaysia in the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup Qualifier on Thursday. After this win, Nepal has two points.
Chasing the target of 85 runs presented by Nepal in the match at Bayeumas Oval in Malaysia, Malaysia managed to score only 79 runs by losing nine wickets using 20 overs. Kavita Kunwar and Kavita Joshi took two wickets each for Nepal.
At one point, Malaysia was heading towards an easy victory. Malaysia needed 17 runs to win from 24 balls with 7 wickets in hand. In the third ball of the 17th over, Mahimah was run out for 9 runs. After that Winifred got out in the next ball which put Malaysia under pressure.
Kavita Joshi gave only two runs in that over. Malaysia required 15 runs for victory in 18 balls. After Indu Barma conceded two runs in the 18th over, it was a situation where 13 runs had to be scored in 12 balls.
In 19th over, Kavita took two wickets with a run out and conceded 3 runs, Nepal moved towards victory. Malaysia needed 10 runs in the last 6 balls to win. Kavita Kunwar confirmed Nepal’s victory. Nepal’s Kavita Joshi took 2 wickets with 5 runs in 2 overs. Kavita Kunwar took 2 wickets for 10 runs in 4 overs. Rubina Chhetry and Ashmina Karmacharya also took one wicket each.
