The Nepali women’s national cricket team has won the first match of the four-nation T20 series. Nepal defeated Hong Kong by 6 wickets in their first match in Malaysia today.
Nepal chased the target of 85 runs set by Hong Kong with the loss of 4 wickets in 15.5 overs. For Nepal, Samjhana Khadka scored unbeaten 36 runs . She hit 5 fours in 36 balls. Similarly, Sita Rana Magar remained not out for 3 runs. Opener Pooja Mahato, who made her debut in the national team today, scored 16 runs. Indu Barma added 9 runs when the other opener Bindu Rawal was dismissed for a golden duck. Captain Rubina Chhetri got dismissed for just 10 runs.
Before that, Hong Kong lost the toss and batted first and were bowled out for 84 runs with five balls left to play. Ka Ying Chan added 34 runs and Yan Chan added 16 runs for Hong Kong. Other batsmen were dismissed without scoring runs in double figures. Nepal’s Sita Rana Magar took 5 wickets in bowling. She spent 16 runs in 4 overs. Indu Barma picked up 2 wickets while Kavita Kunwar and Pooja Mahato took 1 wicket each. The match was live streamed on Cardiac Kids Nepal website.
In the series, Nepal will play Kuwait tomorrow and Malaysia on Friday. After that, Nepal will play the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier. Six teams including Nepal are competing in Group A of the tournament to be held in Malaysia. Nepal, Bahrain, Bhutan, Malaysia, Qatar and UAE are in Group ‘A’.
Nepal will play hosts Malaysia on August 31 in their first match in the tournament. Group ‘B’ has 5 teams. From the tournament, two teams will reach the World Qualifier. While 10 teams will participate in the World Cup Qualifiers, 2 teams will secure their place in the Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh in 2024.
