In a historic triumph, Madhesh Province secured the K.P. Oli Cup T20 championship title by defeating Tribhuvan Army Club by 11 runs in the final at Pokhara Cricket Stadium. This victory marks Madhesh’ first national-level tournament win.
Chasing a moderate target of 136 runs for victory, Tribhuvan Army Club struggled and managed to score only 124 runs, losing seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Madhesh Province’s victory was anchored by their captain, Harishankar Shah, who bowled an impressive spell of 4 overs, conceding only 19 runs and taking four crucial wickets. Pradeep Paswan also played a key role, securing 2 wickets for 26 runs in his 4-over spell, while Pratik Yadav contributed with 1 wicket for 14 runs in 3 overs.
Earlier in the match, after winning the toss and opting to bat, Madhesh Province posted a challenging total of 135 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Bishal Patel was the top scorer, smashing an unbeaten 49 runs off 32 balls, featuring 3 fours and 3 sixes.
Hari Shankar, Sandeep and Rit Claim Individual Awards
Madhesh Province’s captain, Harishankar Shah, has been declared the Player of the Tournament in the K.P. Oli Cup T20, showcasing exceptional all-round performances. In the final against Tribhuvan Army Club, Harishankar not only guided his team to victory with a notable 27 runs but also took four wickets, securing a remarkable win by 11 runs.
Harishankar’s outstanding contributions with both bat and ball earned him the prestigious title of the Best Player of the Tournament. His stellar performance included 41 runs and a total of 10 wickets throughout the competition. In the final, he played a pivotal role in dismissing Binod Bhandari, Basir Ahmad, and Kushal Malla in a same over, bringing Madhesh Province back in the game.
Bagmati Province’s captain, Sandeep Lamichhane, was named the Best Bowler of the Tournament for his exceptional bowling display. Sandeep claimed a total of 10 wickets in three matches, showcasing his proficiency in the bowling department. Additionally, Rit Gautam from Bagmati Province was recognized as the Best Batsman of the Tournament. Rit’s consistent performance included scoring a century and accumulating a total of 170 runs in three matches.
Both Rit Gautam and Sandeep Lamichhane will be awarded an equal share of a cash prize amounting to NPR 20,000. Harishankar Shah, with his splendid achievements, will be receiving a cash prize of NPR 35,000.
