In a landmark gathering of the newly elected Central Committee of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), several pivotal decisions were reached that are poised to steer the future course of cricket in the country. Here are some of the notable resolutions unveiled during this crucial meeting:
1. Nepal, UAE, Hong Kong Tri Series:
CAN has greenlit an exciting Tri-Series that will feature Nepal, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Hong Kong. This T20I series holds immense significance as it serves as a prelude to the T20 World Cup 2024 Asia Qualifiers. It promises high-intensity cricket action and invaluable preparation for the national team as both of the oppositions are most likely Nepal’s semifinal opponents on World Cup Qualifiers.
2. 10-Team PM Cup – Inclusion of Provinces and Departmental Teams:
The prestigious Prime Minister’s Cup (PM Cup) is set to undergo revamp with the participation of ten teams. This strcuture will encompass teams representing all seven provinces of Nepal, along with the inclusion of three departmental teams. The move aims to make the tournament more inclusive and competitive.
3. PM Cup Format: Round Robin + Semi-Finals and Finals with Red Ball:
The PM Cup will adopt a captivating format, featuring a Round Robin stage, followed by thrilling semi-finals and finals. What makes this decision even more exciting is the introduction of red balls for the semi-final and final matches. The semifinal matches will be played in Two days format whereas the final will be played in Three days format. This development marks a significant milestone in Nepal’s domestic cricket.
4. Nepal Premier League (NPL) Scheduled for April/May:
Cricket enthusiasts can look forward to the Nepal Premier League (NPL), which is scheduled to take place in either April or May. This professional T20 league is expected to feature both domestic and international talents, promising exhilarating cricket action.
5. Appointment of Provincial Development Officers in Every Province:
In a bid to bolster grassroots cricket development, CAN has decided to appoint a Provincial Development Officer in each province. This initiative aims to nurture budding talents, provide coaching facilities, and enhance infrastructure at the provincial level.
6. Establishment of Cricket Grounds with Proper Pitches in Every Province:
CAN is committed to improving cricket infrastructure nationwide. As part of this endeavor, the association plans to develop at least one cricket ground in every province, complete with a proper pitch. This initiative seeks to provide better playing conditions and opportunities for cricketers across the country.
7. Resumption of Everest Premier League (EPL) and Other Domestic Leagues After NPL:
The popular Everest Premier League (EPL) and various other domestic leagues are set to make a return. The domestic franchise leagues will receive permission after NPL. These leagues play a vital role in showcasing domestic talent and fostering cricketing passion within the country.
8. Establishment of National Cricket Awards:
CAN has decided to institute National Cricket Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions and performances in Nepali cricket. This annual recognition will serve as a source of motivation and inspiration for cricketers.
9. Composition of CAN Working Committee:
The newly formed CAN Working Committee comprises Chatur Bahadur Chand, Roshan Singh, Paras Khadka, Padam Bahadur Khadka, and Diwakar Ghale. They can take any decisions related to cricket in Nepal which will be subejct to approval from central committe.
