In a promising development reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering extending support to Nepal Cricket, opening avenues for collaborative growth. The revelation surfaced following a presentation titled “Nepal Cricket: Progress and Challenges” by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Secretary Paras Khadka during the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) Annual General Meeting in Bali, Indonesia and the meeting of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand.

Key points from the PTI report:
- Access to BCCI Infrastructure: There are discussions about granting Nepal’s cricketing talent access to BCCI’s advanced infrastructure, potentially offering a substantial boost to player development. CAN have requested the access to the upgraded National Cricket Academy facilities in Bengaluru, India where the Nepal cricketers can go for injury management and rehabilitation if the need arises.
- Training Facility in India: The BCCI is reportedly mulling over the provision of a training facility in India for Nepal’s cricketers, creating an environment conducive to skill enhancement under professional guidance.
- Practice Matches for Nepal A & Nepal U-19: As per the PTI report, the BCCI is considering arranging practice matches for Nepal’s ‘A’ team and the Under-19 team against State teams in India, providing valuable exposure and experience.
- Senior Team Practice Ahead of T20 World Cup: The report suggests that the senior Nepal cricket team might undergo practice sessions in India, strategically preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup. If all goes well, there is a strong possibility that the senior national team of Nepal could train in Delhi and play some warm-up games before leaving for the United States to play the T20 World Cup in June. CAN feels that Nepal national team needs an uniterrupted training camp ahead of World Cup which will not be possible in Nepal because of Rainy season. CAN feels that Delhi-NCR is logistically viable during April and May for training base.
It’s important to note that while these potential initiatives have not been officially announced by the BCCI, the PTI report indicates a positive inclination towards supporting Nepal Cricket. The reported developments are subject to official confirmation, but the prospect of collaboration between the cricket boards of India and Nepal has already sparked enthusiasm among cricket enthusiasts. This collaborative initiative follows the re-election of Mr. Jay Shah, the Secretary of BCCI, as the President of the ACC. Mr. Shah’s influential position in the cricketing world underscores the significance of this partnership.
As the cricketing community eagerly awaits official announcements, the reported intentions by the BCCI hold promise for an exciting and mutually beneficial partnership that could shape the future trajectory of Nepal Cricket.
